| SCL Community Needs to Buy Local to Keep the Music Alive.

Most musicians I know have jobs outside/in addition to their paying gigs, and right now, a lot of them are hurting from the economic downturn. At the same time, the venues are hurting, as are the servers, cooks and staff they employ. I considered adding a ''message board'' where musicians and such who have other services to sell, could advertise their businesses, but there was no practical way to limit it to just SCL members. And I don't want to run a ''wide open'' message board. It is more work than you might imagine.
So I'll just ask you to look around and do what you can. If you need to buy something, and an SCL member (musician/singer/etc.) has or works in a store that sells it, consider shopping there first. If you need a service and an SCL member provides it, give SCL members first consideration. If you're taking the family, or friends, out for a night on the town, consider first the venues that host live music, before you pick your place to party.
I'm not asking that you only consider SCL members for services or goods. That's not the idea. You have to make the right choices for your own needs. But when you have a pretty even choice, and one of those choices will help an SCL member, why not opt to help 'one of our own'? All of these problems tie together. When a musician can no longer afford to play for the public, we all lose. When a venue closes for lack of business, the staff lose their jobs, performers lose a venue that might hire them, and we lose a place to hear our music.
They say ''charity begins at home'', folks. In this case, ''home'' is our SCL community. You don't have to save the world, just do something positive here, and we'll all be better off for it.
