“IN A JAM” is a special combination of extraordinary local talent who played together when a venue had to find a band at the last minute when they were “IN A JAM”. They were instantly a huge hit.

The band is Phil Coe on guitar, Ron Pirtle on the upright bass, Fred Goodnight on drums & we’ve added saxophonist Billy Davis for this performance.

Phil Coe is a freelance guitarist who plays locally around Brevard County. He was born and raised in suburban Chicago and began playing guitar professionally in 1971 and teaching guitar, bass, and music theory in 1975. He graduated from De Paul University with a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition. Phil has performed with numerous funk, rock, jazz groups, & show pit orchestras. He has also played with Clark Terry, Bill Watrus, Eddie Daniels, Frankie Avalon, Marlena Shaw & Ed Shaunassey, to name a few.

Billy Davis is from Iowa & currently lives in Satellite Beach. He has toured with a group opening for such artists as Chicago, Hall and Oates, Eric Clapton, & more.  He then toured with another group who were appointed Ambassadors of Culture for the State of Iowa & they traveled to the Soviet Union to perform. He was also a guest soloist with the Cedar Rapids Symphony & has performed as a member of the Cedar Rapids Jazz Band playing with national artists such as Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker, Eddie Daniels and Bob Mintzner.  In 2005, Billy worked on an album project called Crazy Eight” in which the song American Dream was nominated for a Grammy in Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Popular Instrumental.  Billy says he loves sharing the gift of expression through music.

Ron Pirtle is one of the most sought after bass players when any famous Jazz musicians travel to Brevard County to perform. He’s been playing music since he was 12 & has released an album in 2003 entitled “Gettin’ In The Groove”.

Fred Goodnight has performed in bands with Herbie Hancock, Buster Williams, Larry Coryell & others. He played Madison Square Garden for the 200th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty & various festivals all over the US & the world including Switzerland, Belgium & more. He is a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and has degrees in Music Theory from the US Navy School of Music and Akron University. He holds drum clinics, workshops & is a drum circle facilitator.
